TRIENNALE BOVISA
PROJECT DATAGROSS FLOOR SURFACE AREA: 2.500 sqm EXHIBITION SPACE: 1.230 sqm BISTROT: 305 sqm EXTERNAL SPACE: 6.700 sqm CAR PARK: 50 parking spaces Project DescriptionBovisa has been reborn by culture. Thanks to the cooperation between EuroMilano and the Triennale di Milano, since November 2006 the city has had a new exhibition centre dedicated to contemporary art, Bovisa Triennale: a structure of over 2,500 sqm, between Villapizzone and Bovisa railway stations, which hosts temporary shows and exhibitions, a restaurant-cafè , and a large open-air space for art performances and events. For the next years the Triennale di Milano with EuroMilano will manage this exhibition centre, a real creative laboratory for the public and especially for young people. The Bovisa Triennale is thus contributing to the transformation of the historic industrial area on the north-west periphery of Milan, situated in the heart of the Milanese railway system, which was formerly the site of several companies and institutions, including the "Politecnico di Milano" university. In the areas overlooking the new Triennale, EuroMilano is carrying out also other important urban redevelopment projects, which will make the area the new Milanese centre for scientific research and innovation: i.e. the enlargement of "Politecnico di Milano" university and the television studios of Telelombardia, as well as the building for the new site of Mario Negri Institute.
"Non-architecture" for contemporary art 's sake. The architectural project for Bovisa Triennale, directed by Architect Pierluigi Cerri, is a light, versatile and functional construction, which is used as an effective means of communication: the exterior is covered in a special PVC film, which enables the use of the surface as a screen for open air film projections. Films, shorts and videos are shown every evening on the external walls of Bovisa Triennale. As for the interior furnishing, some of the leading Italian design companies have taken care of all the details, thus creating living, contemporary spaces. The Bovisa Bistrot features a sobre and minimal style and is an ideal extension of the exhibition space: on the walls can be found paintings by Bettina Werner, a Milanese born artist , New Yorker by adoption.
The greatest urban communication project in Italy. The opening of Bovisa Trienniale was preceded by a major urban communication operation - the largest in Italy - which made Bovisa an area open to welcome young people's art in all its forms: from the performance of over 100 graffiti artists who decorated 6 km of wall along the Cadorna-Bovisa railway line, to the involvement of design students from" Politecnico di Milano" university in creating signage and the urban furnishing for the area around the new Triennale. Triennale Bovisa is home to ReMida project of MUBA. In Triennale Bovisa area, EuroMilano in cooperation with Provincia di Milano, Politecnico di Milano University and Museo del Bambino, has developed and coordinated the building of a new structure dedicated toRe Mida porject of MUBA, which will rise beside Gaetano Pesce's Pink Pavillon. Once again architect Cerri has created the concept of this building, which shows a geometrically simple image with a strong visual impact. It is flexible light colourful versatile and functional, ideal for children. Even the choice of materials mirrors the aim of the project: linoleum floors, colourful plasterboarded walls, perforated sheets aluminium and glass. The new pavillon, whcih is a children workshop, has a surface of 278 sqm.
